Smoothie lovers everywhere know how rough your day gets when you have to skip your smoothie.

It really doesn’t matter whether you’re used to a smoothie with breakfast lunch or dinner, skipping it doesn’t feel good.

Leaving your smoothie out of your day can be even harder if you use your smoothie to add important nutrients to your diet.

But it can be just as hard to take a blender with you to make your smoothies on the go. Even if you’re traveling to visit friends or family, it’s hard to know what kind of blender they have in their kitchen. Not to mention that many people still don’t have a blender at all!

Being able to bring a smaller blender with you while you travel can help keep you more comfortable and make it easier to enjoy your homemade smoothie goodness every day.

I’ve selected a group of travel blenders that are small enough for you to take with you. They’ll still take up a little room in your luggage, but as long as your destination is somewhere with a working outlet they’ll make sure you’re ready to make your favorite smoothie.

In this guide you’ll learn:

  • What you need in a good travel blender
  • The features that help make a travel blender a smoothie blender
  • And Much More!

My Overall Top #1 Pick: Mueller Austria Ultra-Stick 500 Watt 9-Speed Immersion Multi-Purpose Hand Blender

Immersion blenders are a natural pick if you’re looking for travel blender.

The compact size of these blenders is one of the biggest perks of this design. They’re small enough to tuck into a backpack, suitcase, or even a large purse in an emergency.

This blender in particular is a great deal since it’s the full package. The blender attachment is great for creating your morning smoothie, and then you can swap out for the milk frother attachment to craft a cappuccino or even bulletproof coffee.

Of course, just because a blender is for travel doesn’t mean that that’s the only time it can be used. This easy-to-wash design is great for creating your favorite smoothies at home too. And the whisk attachment is incredibly useful when you don’t want to get out a larger mixer.

This design is also incredibly easy to use, with only two buttons. That doesn’t mean that you’re limited to a single-speed though. This blender offers 9-speed settings so that you have plenty of control.

Overall this design is incredibly effective on the road and at home. It’s really designed for drinks and making mixing and blending quick and easy. And since the blender attachment fits in most wide mouthed mason jars, glasses, and mugs, it’s easy to make smoothies on the go. No special containers needed.

What are the Advantages of a High-Quality Travel Blender for Smoothies?

There are a lot of things we do for convenience while traveling. You buy special travel-sized containers for your soap, shampoo, and conditioner, but food is one of those things that can be challenging to bring along with you.

Especially when it comes to food like smoothies that’s best when made absolutely fresh and won’t always last in cold storage.

Not sure what kinds of smoothies to drink while traveling? Here are some healthy smoothie recipes to help you feel your best on the go!

You could go for a cheap travel blender and plan on replacing it every year (or trip) or two. The problem is that when you buy a cheap blender you never really know when it’s going to go out on you.

Worse, travel blenders have to be able to withstand a lot more stress than a standard blender because they won’t live on a counter the whole year. Moving around, getting packed and unpacked, and even sudden changes in elevation and humidity all add up to mean more wear and tear for travel blenders.

That extra wear and tear makes it even more important to make sure you have a great blender that can handle the challenges when you’re on the road.

Buying a high quality blender will help the blender last a lot longer. High quality blenders also tend to be more consistent and offer better performance than cheaper alternatives.

Making a smoothie shouldn’t be difficult. Having a high quality travel blender means that it will be a lot easier.

How to Pick the Best Travel Blender for Smoothies?

Immersion Blenders or Traditional Blenders?

One of the first things you need to decide when you’re choosing a travel blender is whether you want an immersion (hand-held) blender or a traditional blender.

I personally tend to prefer immersion blenders for traveling because they are easier to use on the go, take up less space in my luggage, and are just as useful at home as they are on the road. Having an immersion blender makes making blended soups just as easy as making my morning smoothie.

Anytime I can get more than one function from my appliances, I’m in.

That said, there is an argument for using more traditional blender designs, or at least the more modern take on a blender that you get from the NutriBullet and Magic Bullet lines.

Traditional blenders do tend to be a little more durable and long lasting than immersion blenders. Depending on how much you travel and how you back your blender, a traditional blender might last a little longer than an immersion blender.

However, you also run the risk of cracked jars and cups taking your blender out of commission on the road.

It’s all about your preference and how much packing space you tend to have when you’re traveling. If you’ve got a little extra room you might be better served by a traditional blender. But if you like to travel light (like me!) or want something that’s a little more compact and a little different than a traditional blender, and immersion blender is a good choice.

Size

Immersion blenders basically all come in one size. So I’m not really talking about that style of blender in this section.

Size is more important if you’re considering getting a more traditional blender. Smaller styles, like bullet blenders, tend to work better for travel because they take up less space.

Small is also important in another way. The smaller the cup or blender jar is, the less likely it is to break in transit.

So, it’s important to look for a smaller blender when you’re looking for a great travel blender for smoothies. The blender itself should only be big enough for roughly a single serving of your smoothie.

It is okay if the blender comes with several different cups to jars though. Try to look for models where the cups stack together easily to minimize packing space, and bring enough for everyone to make their own smoothie everyday.

Power and Speed

Fortunately smoothie blenders can be relatively simple when it comes to speed. You won’t need to gradually increase the speed of your blender to make a great smoothie, so one-speed blenders work well.

However, power is another story. Your blender should be relatively powerful if you want to add any tougher ingredients like leafy greens or seeded berries.

Usually power is less of an issue with immersion blenders because of the differences in their design. It’s simply harder to jam an immersion blender than a traditional blender.

However, you should look for an immersion blender around 500 Watts in power because you want to be sure the motor is up to the job of blending tough fruits and vegetables. Immersion blenders usually aren’t great for crushing large ice, but the more powerful versions can handle a little pre-crushed ice.

My Reviews of the Best Travel Blenders for Smoothies

1. Mueller Austria Ultra-Stick 500 Watt 9-Speed Immersion Multi-Purpose Hand Blender

I’ve already talked a little about why this blender made my top pick spot, but let’s dig into the details.

This 9-speed blender has the power you need for leafy greens and herbs (who doesn’t love a little mint in their berry smoothie?), and is small enough to work well in most standard cups.

Its base comes with a whisk and milk frothing attachment. These are great if you want whipped cream on your smoothie, and have plenty of non-smoothie uses as well.

The stainless steel outer housing is also a great addition to this blender. The steel helps keep everything inside protected, and is more resistant to dents and scratches than other metals. The combination means that this blender will last a lot longer, even traveling.

This travel blender is also more durable in one other respect. It’s got a copper motor. That copper is more durable than alternatives, and means that this motor will run longer and work better than almost any non-copper blender motor.

PROS (+)CONS (-)
+ Copper Motor for added durability
+ Stainless Steel outer housing
+ 9 speeds
+ Comes with a whisk and frother attachment
– The motor heats up after extended use. Best used for short bursts

2. NutriBullet NB9-1301PINK Pro 13 Pcs

The NutriBullet pro is another good option if you don’t mind traveling with a slightly larger bullet blender.

This blender comes with a couple of cups, lids, and handle attachments to help make it easier to drink your smoothie when it’s ready.

The blender itself is relatively small compared to a more traditional style blender.

That’s important because it makes packing easier. The rounded design is also very luggage friendly overall.

The 900-watt motor is also more powerful than most immersion blenders, which means that this may be a better choice for people who like to make smoothies with mostly greens or other tough ingredients. It’s also a good option if you like to add a little ice to your smoothie.

I also appreciate that the cup and lid designs are family friendly and work as a good option for your whole family’s breakfast smoothies.

PROS (+)CONS (-)
+ Comes with its own cups and lids for drinking
+ More Powerful 900-watt motor
+ Relatively easy to pack
+ Good for smoothies, purees, and even crushing ice
– Relatively loud
– Cup tabs break fairly easily

3. Magic Bullet Blender

If you like the thought of a bullet blender but want something a little more affordable than other models, the Magic Bullet blender system may be a good option.

The Magic Bullet is designed to look and function very much like the NutriBullet system, but with a more affordable price tag.

Like the NutriBullet it also comes with its own cups, lids, and ring tops that all make drinking a little more comfortable.

However, there is one downside to this system. Its motor is significantly less powerful than the Nutribullet motor. This isn’t as good a system if you’re looking to work with tough ingredients. But it will work well for berry and yogurt smoothies, soft fruits, and minimal ice.

Overall, while this isn’t the most powerful travel blender, it’s a good fit if you’re looking for a more affordable travel budget and don’t need a ton of extra features or a fantastic motor.

PROS (+)CONS (-)
+ Very Affordable
+ Relatively Small
+ Comes with Cups and lids
+ Fast Blending
– Not very powerful
– Fairly Heavy (4.7 lbs.)

4. Immersion Hand Blender, Utalent 5-in-1 8-Speed Stick Blender

This blender is probably the most feature-rich model on my list. It’s designed to work as an immersion blender, an electric whisk, and as a food processor.

That’s a lot of uses packed into a single immersion blender, but it also means that you might not be able to bring every accessory with you while you’re traveling.

However, it does mean that it’s easy to process your fruit and other ingredients into smaller chunks before blending, which makes blending much faster.

However this 8-speed blender does a great job of powering through lots of ingredients to make delicious smoothies. You don’t need need to do a ton of prep to make a smoothie with this travel blender.

PROS (+)CONS (-)
+ 8 Speeds for added control
+ Comes with a food processor attachment
+ Several different attachments for added versatility
+ Lightweight and small
– Can be a little loud

5. New House Kitchen Immersion Hand Blender 2 Speed Stick Mixer with Stainless Steel Shaft & Blade

This is a more basic immersion blender with only two speeds and no accessories. But that’s actually perfect for a no-frills traveling blender.

This design uses the same durable stainless steel that I wanted to see in the other immersion blenders on this list.

Since this blender (like the others on my list), is designed for standard 120-volt outlets, it’s the perfect companion for any travel inside the US.

Unfortunately other countries use other standard outlet designs, which means that they need a different style of blender.

The 300-watt motor on this blender is a little less powerful than I would prefer, but it’s still going to work well as long as you don’t mind adding a little liquid to your smoothies to help them blend better.

PROS (+)CONS (-)
+ Very affordable
+ No frills or extras to pack
+ Durable design
+ Works with all standard US outlets
– Only 2-speed operation

My Top Pick: Mueller Austria Ultra-Stick 500 Watt 9-Speed Immersion Multi-Purpose Hand Blender

Overall while this blender might not have quite as many features as some of the other blenders on this list, it’s still the best combination for traveling. Its compact design, powerful motor, and good blade assembly all help make this immersion blender a fantastic travel blender for smoothies.

Final Thoughts On The Best Travel Blenders for Smoothies

Smoothies have become so much a part of every day for many families. It’s hard to try and leave them behind when it’s time to go traveling, but it quickly gets expensive to try and buy your smoothies from stores and restaurants.

With one of the blenders on this list you’ll never have to go without your favorite smoothie again.

Plus, you’ll be able to see if your smoothie tastes any different when you’re enjoying it from a new location.
